Free Camping, Brisbane to Cape York

Free camping locations between Brisbane and Cape York are surprisingly plentiful!

We have sourced a collection of free public camping grounds, overnight rest areas and places of business that permit short term stays. Without the expense of accommodation, exploring the eastern coast of Queensland is significantly more affordable for Logan families.

The names and links of camping venues are provided in the map below.

Considerations When Selecting Camping Venues

Please ensure to thoroughly read the conditions of each location:

1. Is it suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans and/or motor homes?

2. What is the maximum duration of stay?

3. Are bookings and/or permits required?

4. What facilities and amenities are available? For example, toilets, showers, clean drinking water etc.

5. Is it dog-friendly?

6. Is it accessible by 2WD vehicles?

Please support the local businesses and leave all sites free of rubbish.

Great list of free campsites guys. I have a question for you though – do you choose free sites with toilets or if you camp where there are no toilets do you have a camp toilet? We’re looking at getting one for the few times we camp where there are no facilities but have no idea whether it’s worth investing in a chemical toilet or will something more basic be ok for the few times we camp where there are no facilities.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this. Cheers.

Hi Andrew, for this article we simply looked for free camping sites (regardless of facilities etc). As you can imagine, just finding a trail of free sites was very time consuming!
