What’s on these school holidays?
It seems like my children only just started term three – now the holidays are here already! The Go Duckling Facebook page has promoted many school holiday activities lately, most of which have required pre-booking (and very quickly filled!)
The following activities do not require bookings or have current vacancies.
Shopping Centre Fun
Jurassic Creatures: Explore a prehistoric world with life-size animatronic dinosaurs that breathe, move & roar. Plus, pick up a free 3D Dinosaur puzzle to take home!

Mini Beasts: This exhibit will be coming soon to the Hyperdome. While you wait for their arrival, download an un-bee-lievably fun craft pack to enjoy from home.

GC Slam Basketball Workshops: Join in the fun and learn about footwork, passing and shooting skills with Basketball Queensland.

Build-a-Bear School Holiday Workshops: Bring to life your very own “Lil Cub” toy. Your new furry friend will be pre-filled with just the right amount of cuddliness, ready for you to add a heart and personal touches.
21-29 September, five sessions daily at 10:00am, 11:00am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm and 3:00pm
Westfield Carindale (1151 Creek Road, Carindale)
$10 per child, bookings essential. Clothes and accessories will also be available for separate, additional purchase.
Festival of Fun: Join Westfield Coomera for a week of fun, including craft workshops (beaded person doll or grass head pot), entertainment (hulahoop show, balloon twisting or ribbon tworling), magic shows and live music.

Community Events
Becky’s Place: Book a visit to interact with the miniature horses, visit the fairy garden and enjoy story time.

$15 for one adult and one child, $5 each additional child (message their page for bookings).
Half day programs, 8:30-11:30am weekdays, $35 per child per session.

Afternoon Antics: Reclink and Logan Together will host afternoon sessions of music, sports, activities and giveaways for the whole family.
Thursdays, 3:30-4:30pm, 35A North Road (Woodridge).

Kids Collective Holiday Program: Children 5-12 years can enjoy a variety of free outdoor activities at Roma Street Parkland.
From mini worm farm creations, butterfly watercolour paintings, nature play and bee themed craft, there is something to kindle every kids fancy.

IndigiScapes Wildlife Week: Celebrate Wildlife Week with a series of activities and workshops. Free entry, bookings essential (please register by calling 3824 8611).
Ocean Life Education will have marine life and artefacts on display. Bat Conservation & Rescue Qld will feature their intriguing flying foxes as a key species combined with a batty craft activity.

Geckoes Wildlife will have a range of furry, feathery and scaly creatures on display and informative talks. Birdlife Australia will also present rolling talks throughout the day.

Geckoes Wildlife will have a range of furry, feathery and scaly creatures on display and informative talks. Attendees will also learn about habitat creation for wildlife and how to make a possum drey.

Keen to make a possum drey? Cost is $10.00 for one child with supervising adult (suitable for school aged children).
Tie Dye Workshops and Park Games: Enjoy Sparky Do Dah’s Pop-Up Playground with engaging and developmental activities suitable for all ages. Come and try stilts, juggling sticks, duck fishing, balance games, throwing games and more.
Plus, capture a rainbow in the vibrant Tie Dye workshop by Aspiral Design. Bring something white from home and tie-dye it for $3, or purchase a pillowcase or tote bag and tie-dye it for $4. (one item per child)

Fairs and Festivals
The Redbank Fun Fair will feature carnival food, games, show bags and an impressive range of amusement rides.
The fair will open for sessions of three hours duration, allowing for thorough cleaning prior to each time slot.
18-20, 24-27 September and 1-4 October, 235 Smiths Road (Redbank)
Entry is $2 per person with unlimited ride wristbands available for $35 online. Session times and booking can be found here.
Queensland State Fair: Queensland’s biggest fair of 2020 is coming to Helensvale. Enjoy amusement rides, carnival food and sideshow alley.
$2 entry, per person. Rides $5-$9 each.
10-13, 17-20 and 24-27 September, Town Centre Drive, Helensvale (see website for session times).
Pacific Fairgrounds Carnival: Bring the family to enjoy the classic tea-cup ride, trackless train and sideshow alley.
The fair will host sessions of 30 minutes duration between 19 September and 4 October

Free entry, extremely limited spaces available. Be quick for the 3rd ticket release on Monday 21 September at 8am.
Museums and Galleries
Family Fun Day: Head to Beenleigh Historical Village and Museum to learn about life in the Colonial days, play games and enjoy food trucks, raffles and prizes.

SparkLab is an interactive science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) space at the Queensland Museum. Suitable for children 6-13 years of age, explore interactive exhibits across three zones. Plus, see live experiments at the Science Bar and get hands on at the Maker Space. Download the guide for more details.

Sciencentre: Unleash your inner scientist at The Workshops Rail Museum. Think creatively and test new ideas to solve problems with over 20 interactive exhibits.

Wind Tubes is a hands-on exhibition at the Ipswich Art Gallery. Visitors will be challenged to make a flying creation out of everyday materials and launch it into large, clear vertical tubes of moving air. It’s a playful way to explore the effect that moving air has on objects. The challenge is to harness the power of the moving air and discover the design that will keep your creation air-born for the longest time.
