Ernest Junction Tunnel
Ernest Junction Tunnel
The Ernest Junction Tunnel (constructed 1885-1889) is a heritage listed remnant of the original South Coast railway line. When accessed via Export Drive, Molendinar, it requires only a short bush walk. It is not a particularly long tunnel, but enough to impress little adventurers.
The tunnel is well maintained by a passionate local group, with particular attention given to the eastern entrance and surrounds (seating, signage with historical information and images).
We visited after a day at the nearby Country Paradise Parklands.
*Tunnel is easily accessible at 797 Ashmore Road (western end) and 34 Export Drive, Molendinar (eastern end).
